Mr. Sharp graduated summa cum laude from Christian Brothers College in 1990 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Management. At Christian Brothers, he received the Alumni Academic Achievement Award (presented for the highest cumulative G.P.A.), the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key (presented to the top student in the Business School) and a Certificate of Excellence in Management (presented by the Business School faculty). In 1993, he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law where he was the Associate Problem Editor for the Vanderbilt Moot Court Board. While at Vanderbilt, Mr. Sharp was also a recipient of the Appellate Advocacy Award and was a research assistant on issues of constitutional law. A founding member of the law firm of Drescher & Sharp, P.C., Mr. Sharp is formerly a principal in the Nashville office of Stokes Bartholomew Evans & Petree, P.A. where he was a member of the firm's Litigation Section and co-chair of the firm's Employment Law Practice Group. He worked with Stokes Bartholomew as an associate from 1993 through 1995. In 1996, he moved to Washington, D.C. to serve as an attorney with the newly created U.S. Congress, Office of Compliance. He later served as the agency's Deputy General Counsel prior to returning to Stokes Bartholomew in 1997. While at Stokes Bartholomew, his responsibilities included advising clients and litigating disputes in the areas of labor and employment law, civil rights, shareholder disputes, personal injury and general business law. While serving in the Office of the General Counsel to the Office of Compliance, Mr. Sharp was responsible for enforcing the labor and employment laws applicable to the legislative branch of the United States government under the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995. His primary concentration while with the OOC was in Occupational Safety and Health, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Labor-Management Relations. Mr. Sharp drafted the occupational safety and health regulations and ADA regulations applicable to the U.S. Congress. Mr. Sharp served in the United States Navy from 1982 to 1986 as a crew member aboard P-3 Orion aircraft operating in patrol/reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capacities as part of the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Litigation and Labor & Employment Law Sections). As part of the Labor & Employment Law Section, Mr. Sharp serves on the Employee Rights and Responsibilities Committee. Mr. Sharp is also a member of the Nashville Bar Association, serving on the Ethics & Professionalism Committee, and the Tennessee Bar Association (Middle Tennessee Delegate to the 2006 Executive Council of the Labor & Employment Law Section) where he is also a member of the TBA's Access to Justice Committee. Presently, Mr. Sharp is a member of the Jeanne A. Carpenter Epilepsy Legal Defense Fund attorney network within the state of Tennessee. Mr. Sharp is a current member of the Disciplinary Hearing Committee of the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee and has previously acted as Special Disciplinary Counsel to the Tennessee Supreme Court. He also serves on the Board of the Tennessee Supreme Court's Lawyers Fund for Client Protection. Mr. Sharp was awarded an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in Who's Who in American Law. He has been voted by his peers as one of the Nashville Business Journal's Best of the Bar (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007) for his work in employment law and was selected for the Nashville Bar Foundation Fellows program (2003). Mr. Sharp was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association's Leadership Law, class of 2005 and was selected for inclusion in "Mid-South Super Lawyers" (2007) and The Best Lawyers in America (2008). Mr. Sharp is admitted to practice law in the Tennessee state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Middle and Western Districts of Tennessee and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
